BOLTON, England (AP) — United States midfielder Stuart Holden will miss June’s Gold Cup after being ruled out for six months because of the knee injury he sustained playing in the Premier League for Bolton.

The 25-year-old Holden hurt his left knee in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United. United defender Jonny Evans was given a red card for the tackle that injured the American.

Bolton manager Owen Coyle says Holden “has such desire, strength of character and a winning mentality, and he will draw on all those attributes in his rehabilitation.”

Holden missed two months last season because of a broken leg, but recovered in time to play at the World Cup.
