Weather Eye: Spring is upon us, but fall-like weather will persist

Somehow, I must get in my annual springtime saying, “Spring has sprung, the grass has ’ris, I wonder where the birdies is?”

I could never figure that one out because usually once spring is here, there are plenty of birds around. I saw robins all winter and a good population of songbirds feasting on my bird feeder as well. Now the birds are abundant and showing brilliant colors as we head into the warmer months.

Regardless, it still feels a bit chilly to me and the dampness doesn’t help either. As weather systems continue to thrust the brunt of their energy into California this week, we remain on the cooler side of the jet stream but also the drier. Perhaps we can squeeze out a dry day on Wednesday?

Certainly, no 70-degree weather is in the offing this month. Looking ahead, we may see March go out like a lamb before more cool and wet weather arrives in early April. We may end up in situation similar to last year, when we were all wondering when summer-like weather would arrive. It certainly took its time coming.

The latest Climate Prediction Center outlook still calls for below-average temperatures and above-average rainfall through April.

Speaking of birds. Did you get a chance to view the full moon late Saturday night? It was very brilliant. I went outside after midnight to get a good look at it and it was kind of an eerie event for me, at least in my neighborhood.

I could hear many crows flying around in the darkness. Don’t know if this means anything significant weather-wise or otherwise, but I find it odd that they would be flocking around and noisy at that hour.

Maybe it was the extra magnetic energy or something.

I certainly did not remain outside very long after visions of Alfred Hitchcock’s movie, “The Birds” came to mind. I did not sleep well that night.
