The Prairie softball team rallied to tie the game in the sixth inning. Turned out, that was only midway through the game.

In a game of top-this, the Falcons outlasted Union 14-12 in 14 innings Tuesday at Union High School.

Grace Middelstadt scored on a passed ball in the top of the 13th inning, then Taylor Bussey’s run-scoring single gave the Falcons some insurance.

And for the first time all day, the Titans did not have a response in the bottom of the inning.

The two teams mirrored each other’s scoring in the ninth, 10th, 11th, and 13th innings — including three runs each in the 13th.

Even the losing coach said he had a blast.

“It was really frustrating for (our) girls because somebody had to lose. But it was exciting,” Union coach Alex Perry said.

Perry said this is the longest game he has been a part of as a head coach. This is his 18th season as a head coach in Clark County, the fourth at Union.

Prairie’s Jessica McDonald pitched the final 10 innings for the win. She struck out seven. Bussey ended up 4 for 7 and drove in two runs. Chelsea Creech and Alyssa Nance each had three hits for the Falcons.

Union pitcher Brittney Dawson threw all 14 innings. She also had four hits and drove in three runs. McKenna Spieth hit a solo home run for the Titans.

Prairie’s Jackson to play in Shootout — Prairie basketball standout Keaton Jackson, who just recorded a triple-double in Southwest Washington’s all-star high school basketball game, will be playing on a bigger stage in April.

Jackson has been selected to play for the Washington all-stars in the 18th annual Northwest Shootout at the Chiles Center in Portland on April 2.

Jackson, a 6-9 post, had 23 points, 19 rebounds, and 13 blocked shots Sunday in the Les Schwab Tires Roundball Shootout in Battle Ground.

The Northwest Shootout, which features boys and girls games, gives seniors from Washington the opportunity to compete against seniors from Oregon.

Jackson is the lone Clark County athlete listed on the rosters.

Camas setter off to Little Rock — Marleen de Zoete, an All-Region setter from the Camas volleyball squad, has accepted a scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Camas finished fifth at the Class 3A state tournament this fall, and de Zoete was a first-team selection for the Class 3A Greater St. Helens League.
