Oregon police arrested a Vancouver man after a high-speed chase on Interstate 205 and through parts of Portland early Wednesday morning.

Clackamas County deputies said Damen Jay Holt, 28, was spotted running a stop sign and making an illegal U-turn at about 2:39 a.m. near Sunnybrook Road and Southeast 82nd Avenue. That kicked off a pursuit of Holt that led officers in both directions on I-205, necessitated the use of spike strips and ended with a foot pursuit after his vehicle spun out in Southeast Portland.

Deputies said they followed Holt’s gold Mazda Protege south onto I-205 and eventually back in the other direction at speeds of more than 80 mph, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office.

Holt’s tires were spiked near the Powell Boulevard exit after he crossed into Multnomah County.

Investigators said he slowed to about 30 mph before he exited the interstate at Southeast Stark Street and drove into oncoming traffic.

A Clackamas County deputy spun out Holt’s car near the intersection of Southeast 103rd Drive and Stark Street.

Investigators said Holt got out of the car and tried to flee on foot before he was arrested near 103rd and Southeast Washington Street.

Holt was wanted on outstanding warrants in Oregon’s Polk and Multnomah counties, including a probation violation for possession of methamphetamine.

Investigators said Holt was dressed in all black clothing when he was arrested. A crowbar was found between the front seats of his car, authorities said.

Holt was booked into the Clackamas County Jail on the outstanding warrants, along with several other charges that included suspicion of attempting to elude and reckless driving. He made his first appearance in Clackamas County Court later Wednesday.
