FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Baltimore Orioles right-hander Brad Bergesen was struck in the right arm by a line drive Friday and removed after throwing only four pitches against the Minnesota Twins.

The severity of the injury is not immediately apparent. Bergesen walked off the mound, repeatedly shook his arm and walked off the field after a quick conversation with a trainer and manager Buck Showalter.

The ball was hit by Denard Span, who was called out when the ball flew off Bergesen’s arm and into the glove of second baseman Robert Andino.

Bergesen is vying to become the third starter in the Baltimore rotation. He entered with a 5.94 ERA.
