STAYTON, Ore. (AP) — Authorities have arrested the owner of three malnourished horses and 14 staving llamas seized from a farm near Stayton, Ore.

The Oregonian newspaper reports that 35-year-old Mikerra Lee Lane was booked Thursday night at the Marion County Jail on animal neglect charges.

An animal sanctuary and volunteers are caring for the animals. Their recovery is expected to take months.

Marion County authorities say it’s the fourth time this year that neglected farm animals have been seized.

They say families who can’t afford to care for their animals should call a veterinarian, organizations such as the Oregon Hay Bank in Gresham or Rescue Blankets in Sandy, or sheriff’s Deputy Brenda Lumley.
