LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Two-time Olympic swimmer Lubos Krizko has been banned for two years after testing positive for tamoxifen, a drug used in treatment for breast cancer.
Swimming’s world governing body, FINA, says Krizko failed a doping test while swimming for Slovakia at the European Championships in August in Budapest, Hungary. He was sixth in the 50-meter backstroke.
FINA says its doping panel suspended the 31-year-old Krizko through Sept. 21, 2012.
Tamoxifen blocks the production of estrogen and is used to control the side effects of taking steroids.
