WALTERVILLE, Ore. (AP) — One man is missing and presumed dead after a boating accident on the McKenzie River.

Rescuers spent hours Saturday afternoon and evening in the river and along its banks following a boat accident that two other men survived.

The Register-Guard reports McKenzie Fire & Rescue crews responded to a report of a capsized boat near Walterville just after 3 p.m. when one of the men safely reached shore and called for help.

Authorities say the aluminum boat hit a downed tree, tossing the men into the frigid and fast-moving water. None of the men were wearing life vests.

A second man was brought to shore at about 4 p.m. Rescuers found him huddled on an island not far from the capsized boat.
