‘Quitting’ will happen more than once

The March 20 Columbian story “1,683 days are something to take pride in,” about Sen. Craig Pridemore, D-Vancouver, quitting smoking was like looking in a mirror for many of us reformed smokers.

We all told ourselves those same stories, we only smoked a few, or we converted to cigars because you don’t inhale (Oh yeah, try not to inhale 20 of those in a day) or we only smoked on special occasions (like weekdays, weekends, or holidays). Or my personal dumbest lie was when I would get home after using a pack during the work day, “It’s not me you smell, it’s everyone in my office smoking, and I’m around them.”

Sen. Pridemore, if you read this, get over it. No one cares when you bought your last pack. You did not quit 1,683 days ago, according to details of the story you’ve smoked five cigarettes since quitting, so you actually quit the day after your last cigarette.
