Schleck wins Criterium International

PORTO-VECCHIO, France (AP) — Franck Schleck of Luxembourg held on to his lead in a 4.3-mile time trial to win the two-day Criterium International race in Corsica on Sunday.

The Luxembourg rider took 12th place in the short final stage in Porto-Vecchio, 24 seconds behind Andreas Kloeden of Germany.

Kloeden clocked 8 minutes and 46 seconds to win ahead of Britain’s Bradley Wiggins, who was 4 seconds behind. Jakob Fuglsang of Denmark was third, 10 seconds back.

Vasil Kiryienka of Belarus, Schleck’s main rival in the overall standings, finished 8th to cut his deficit from 20 to 13 seconds. Rein Taaramae of Estonia was third, 30 seconds behind.

Earlier Sunday, Simon Geschke of Germany won a massive sprint to claim the second stage of the race.
