NEW YORK (AP) — A group of coaches, doctors, equipment manufacturers and parents will study concussions and brain trauma injuries, hoping to bring together information that will make all sports safer.

The National Sports Concussion Cooperative has been formed by the American Football Coaches Association; the University of North Carolina’s traumatic brain injury research center; the Matthew Gfeller Foundation; and Rawlings Sporting Goods.

The group will gather leaders from key industries and focus groups who are dealing with such injuries and incorporate their research.

Grant Teaff is the AFCA president and one-time Baylor football coach. He calls the opportunity to engage in direct dialogue to make sports safer “rare and welcome.”
