JERUSALEM (AP) — Gaza’s Islamic Jihad militant group says an Israeli airstrike targeting two militants on a motorcycle has killed one of the group’s members and wounded another.
The Israeli military did not confirm Wednesday’s strike. It says Gaza militants had launched rockets at Israeli communities the day before.
Islamic Jihad says the killed man was on his way to a nearby mosque to pray. It vowed revenge.
Additionally, Israeli aircraft targeted a smuggling tunnel in southern Gaza. No casualties were reported in that strike.
There recently has been an escalation of violence along the Gaza-Israel border. Both sides have indicated they do not want a repeat of the winter 2009 war in Gaza.
