Letter: Downsize routes with low ridership

We all know we need to cut public expenditures. One of the biggest wastes of local, public money is our hugely inefficient bus system. A lot should be cut from this gobbler of our tax money. That money has more productive uses in our community.

A few routes — the very few that make any sense — sometimes have a reasonable load of passengers. You’ll see these on Fourth Plain and a few other areas of town where city buses actually serve their purpose. But just a short distance away from the busiest part of the community they often are virtually empty. Buses going through Felida and similar areas have, sometimes, one or two passengers; often, there are no passengers.

Ridership claims of C-Tran have no relationship to my real-world observations. But, don’t take my word for it. Look closely at the buses that pass you and see how empty they are.

We are paying a lot to support this nontransit system. For the sake of honesty, it should be renamed C-BEEB: Clark Big Empty Expensive Buses. Or, it should be cut down to the size and cost that makes it a rational efficient public transit system.
