FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) — A woman has died in the first fatal house fire in the Portland suburb of Forest Grove since 1998.
Forest Grove Fire and Rescue officials said fire crews and police responded to a house fire shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.
A Forest Grove police officer attempted to rescue the woman from a bathroom, but was unable to make entry because of flames.
The victim was identified as Velvalee Long. Her husband and his two teenage grandsons escaped the blaze but one teen was taken to a hospital to treat burns to his hands. No other details were immediately available.
