Scott homers twice, Orioles hammer Tigers 14-9

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Luke Scott homered twice off Max Scherzer and drove in seven runs to carry the Baltimore Orioles over the Detroit Tigers 14-9 on Monday.

Scott hit an opposite-field, first-inning grand slam to left and added a three-run shot to right in the second. He came in with a .185 batting average, two homers and six RBIs.

Scherzer yielded 12 runs, 11 earned, on nine hits in 2 1-3 innings. The right-hander had a 10.38 ERA this spring.

Scherzer is scheduled to pitch Sunday in New York and has been chosen to start the home opener against Kansas City on April 8.

Jake Fox hit his major league-leading 10th homer for the Orioles, who built a 13-0 lead in the third inning.

Brian Roberts had three hits and scored three runs for Baltimore, and starter Zach Britton gave up two runs in six innings.
