NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks appear headed toward a slightly higher opening ahead of new reports on consumer confidence and U.S. housing prices.

The Conference Board reports Tuesday on consumer confidence in March. Its confidence index is expected to fall as higher gas prices begin to cut into income.

Before the market opens, the S&P/Case-Shiller index of housing prices for January will be released. Prices fell in 19 of the 20 cities tracked in December.

Ahead of the opening bell, Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 12 points, or 0.1 percent, to 12,126. S&P 500 futures are up 1 to 1,303. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 5, or 0.2 percent, to 2,301.

Stocks dipped slightly on Monday, pulling all three indexes into negative territory for the month.
