Public works crews are tending to a sinkhole discovered this morning on a small side road located off of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard in the Bagley Downs neighborhood.

The sinkhole is about eight feet in diameter surrounding a sewer manhole and has sunk one to two feet, said Capt. Kevin Stromberg of the Vancouver Fire Department. The sinkhole is located at 6300 Northeast 32nd Avenue.

Stromberg also said that part of the road appears to have “washed away with all the water we’ve gotten the past month.”

The area immediately surrounding the sinkhole is protected by cones. It was not immediately clear how long crews would be working on the road.

“They’re not allowing cars to do further damage,” Stromberg said.
