SEATTLE (AP) — A 32-year-old man convicted of pimping was sentenced Tuesday in Seattle to 26 years in prison.

The Seattle Times reports Baruti Hopson is one of the first men to be sentenced under a law that went into effect in Washington in June that makes pimping out a minor a felony.

Hopson was convicted in King County Superior Court in January of commercial sex abuse of a minor, child rape and assault. The charges involved an Auburn runaway who was 15 years old.

The Seattle man had been free on bail during the trial but failed to show up in court the day he was convicted.

He was arrested in February in San Diego.
