Volunteers are needed Saturday for another organized tree-planting event at the Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

Refuge manager Jim Clapp said volunteers should plan to meet at 9 a.m. at the new trailhead just off Highway 14 on the western edge of the Columbia River Gorge. Volunteers will help to plant 360 shrubs called Douglas spirea.

“People can just show up,” Clapp said. “Dress appropriately. We’ll work until about noon, or until they’re all in the ground.”
