Two razor clam digs set in April

LONG BEACH — Additional days of razor clam digging in April tentatively have been set by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Digging is scheduled for April 7-9 at Long Beach and Twin Harbors. The additional dates are April 19-20 at Long Beach and Twin Harbors plus April 21-23 at Long Beach, Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks.

Low tides during those dates are: April 7, 0.1 feet, 9:37 a.m.; April 8, 0.2 feet, 10;19 a.m.; April 9, 0.4 feet, 11:07 a.m.; April 19, -1.8 feet, 8:07 a.m.; April 20, -1.7 feet, 8:54 a.m.; April 21, -1.4 feet, 9:42 a.m.; April 22, -0.8 feet, 10:33 a.m., April 23, -0.2 feet, 11:27 a.m.

Digging, which normally ends at noon, will be allowed until 1 p.m. on April 23.

“We didn’t want to be a position of shooing diggers off the beach just a half hour after low tide,’’ said Dan Ayres, coastal shellfish manager.

The second dig in April is a result of poor weather in March.

Additional digging days are planned in May.

Diggers need a new license beginning in April. An annual razor clam license is $9, while a three-day license is $5.40. Washington’s recreational licenses are valid April 1 through March 31.
