SEATTLE (AP) — Defense lawyers for a man accused of kidnapping and torturing a prostitute in what police have described as a “bondage room” are asking for a change of venue.
The Seattle Times says Monday’s scheduled Seattle arraignment for 66-year-old John Joseph Hauff Jr. of Tacoma was postponed until May 16 after the defense filed its motion. Hauff is charged with kidnapping, rape and assault, accused of torturing a 24-year-old woman he picked up April 2 in Seattle. Police allege the crimes took place in a room attached to the man’s mobile home on a sprawling property near the King-Pierce county line.
The woman says she was released after she disclosed she had texted Hauff’s car license number to her boyfriend.
