BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — Congressional Country Club won’t be the same when the U.S. Open returns next month.

The famed Blue Course in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., will be set up at 7,574 yards — the second longest layout in U.S. Open history.

It’s more than 350 yards longer than in 1997, the last time the tournament was played at Congressional.

Also, the course has had all 18 greens rebuilt and has eight new tee boxes.

The changes were needed to keep pace with today’s longer hitters.

Reigning champion Graeme McDowell played the course for the first time Monday. He tweeted that no one will break par.
