NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Drew Brees says he’s been in touch with Reggie Bush and hopes the running back will see he still can play a key role with the Saints.
Brees says he saw a Twitter post in which Bush wrote, “It’s been fun New Orleans,” shortly after the Saints drafted Alabama running back Mark Ingram last week.
Brees says he texted Bush words of encouragement soon after.
Brees says he sees a parallel between the drafting of Ingram and the Saints’ decision to draft Bush in 2006, when running back Deuce McAllister was one of the club’s featured players — and remained so the following season.
Brees spoke Tuesday during one of a series of workouts he’s organized for teammates while the NFL lockout is in effect. Bush was not in attendance.
