LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — Three-time Olympic gymnastics champion Catalina Ponor is planning a comeback ahead of the 2012 London Games.

The International Gymnastics Federation says it will clear the 23-year-old Romanian to compete from Oct. 1 after she completes the required six months availability for anti-doping tests.

One week later, the world championships are scheduled to open in Tokyo.

Ponor starred at the 2004 Athens Olympics, winning gold medals in the individual floor and balance beam competitions plus the team event.

FIG says Romania’s Marian Dragulescu has also requested to rejoin the testing program and could return in October.

The 30-year-old Dragulescu won three men’s medals in Athens: a silver in floor, and bronze in team and vault.
