A Clark County festival and a schools program will be honored at the Washington State Recycling Association’s May 24 conference in Pasco.

The Recycled Arts Festival, which will celebrate its sixth anniversary June 25-26 in Esther Short Park, will be honored as the Most-Innovative Recycler.

The weekend festival attracts 15,000 people and showcases art created from trash.

Washington Green Schools, a program that the county helped create, will be honored as Recycler of the Year among school programs. Thirty-seven schools in Clark County participate in the program, the highest total among counties.

“These awards prove that learning about environmental stewardship can be both serious study and just plain fun,” Kevin Gray, director of Clark County Environmental Services, said.
