Smoke shop customers help detain shoplifting suspect

Two customers of an Orchards smoke shop helped detain a man who allegedly grabbed some items and fled, police said.

About 4 p.m. Saturday, the suspect walked into Smoke & Pipe, 12113 N.E. Fourth Plain Road. He allegedly grabbed some item and fled. The clerk grabbed him but he broke free. Two customers then helped hold him until police arrived, said Kim Kapp, spokeswoman for the Vancouver Police Department.

Ricardo D. Garcia Arriola, 18, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, Kapp said. He no longer was in the jail Tuesday evening, a jail employee said..
