KENT, Wash. (AP) — Kent police say an armed man fatally shot near the Kent Transit Center was a 58-year-old resident of the south Seattle suburb.

The man was not immediately identified.

Kent police Lt. Tracey Gurr says two officers responded to the transit center about 9 a.m. Wednesday to a report of an armed man.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock told KOMO News the man raised his gun and one officer fired. Officers recovered a gun near the man’s body.

Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. No one else was injured.

One witness told KING-TV the man had ignored orders to “drop it.”

Another witness told KOMO the man refused orders to “freeze” and said he wanted to die.

Federal Way police are leading the investigation.
