PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon Air National Guard helicopter crew has rescued two hikers stranded on a ledge near the Wahkeena Falls trail in the Columbia Gorge just east of Portland.

KGW-TV reported the two men were pulled to safety just before 2 p.m. Wednesday and were being evaluated by medics.

The unidentified men had a cell phone and communicated with search and rescue crews headed their way Wednesday morning.

One of the men tumbled about 30 feet. When the other tried to help, both ended up stranded.

The men were described as experienced hikers.
