Letter: Pray for nation’s healing, virtue

Published: May 4, 2011, 12:00am

May 5 is the 60th annual National Day of Prayer. The theme is, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” God tells us in his word, that if we, his people, will humble ourselves, pray, and turn from our wicked ways, then he will hear us, forgive our sins, and heal our land. Our land certainly needs healing.

We have removed the Bible from our schools and are now reaping the consequences. We have made many laws contrary to God’s Word allowing abortion, homosexuality, etc. Using drugs, drunkenness, adultery, swearing, stealing, etc., are far too common.

The Bible tells us that righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Please pray that our leaders can begin to govern our land in a more godly manner so God will continue to protect us and bless us as he has in the past. God loves us. That is why we celebrate Good Friday and Easter, remembering Jesus dying on the cross to pay our sin debt and rising from the grave to make himself known to us. May God bless each of you as you turn to him in prayer and also thank him for his many blessings. For more information, go to http://nationaldayofprayer.org.
