INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The decision to have Donald Trump drive the pace car at the Indianapolis 500 is drawing criticism.

Fans, local citizens and even an Indiana state lawmaker want to dump The Donald from his celebrity drivership scheduled before the May 29 race. A Facebook page calling for the move has attracted 11,700 followers in a less than a week.

Trump, a potential Republican presidential candidate, had persistently questioned whether President Obama was born outside the United States.

Track spokesman Doug Boles says speedway officials are monitoring the situation. He says as far as he knows, no pace car driver has been changed since the pre-race feature began 1911.
