VERNON, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut says Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a swingman on the school’s national championship basketball team, plans to transfer.
UConn coach Jim Calhoun made the announcement Thursday afternoon, hours after the sophomore had a court appearance on marijuana charges postponed.
In a release, Calhoun said Coombs-McDaniel wants more playing time, and both agreed he would get more of an opportunity in another program.
The sophomore is from Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood. He was arrested April 21 on campus and charged with two misdemeanors: possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
