TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The Pierce County prosecutor said Thursday that a Lakewood police officer was justified in shooting an armed man who was sitting in his car in February after police responded to a report he had assaulted his wife.
The News Tribune reports the officer fired when he saw Daniell Johnson reaching for a handgun in his lap.
The 35-year-old man also shot himself in the head, but the medical examiner ruled he died from a chest wound.
