PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship opens

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Texas Southern’s Dominique Worthern and Alabama State’s Scott Benson shot 2-under 70s in windy conditions Friday on PGA Golf Club’s Ryder Course to share the first-round lead in the 25th PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship.

Bethune-Cookman and Texas-Pan America shared the men’s Division I lead at 12 over. In Division II, Virginia State finished at 27 over to take a three-stroke lead over Lincoln.

Hampton’s Kayla Williams led the women’s standings with a 73, while Towson’s Airielle Dawson and Northwood’s Cecilia Rezk had 75s to top the minority players in the field. In the women’s standings, Texas-Pan American had a 26-over total to take a two-stroke lead over Hampton.
