SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The state Senate has voted to make it a felony for companies to sell suicide kits to Oregonians.

State Sen. Floyd Prozanski of Eugene said Monday that companies marketing or selling suicide kits to people will be held accountable. Prozanski says people charged under the proposed law could be brought to Oregon to face charges.

The bill was introduced after a 29-year-old Eugene man took his own life with the help of a suicide kit her purchased online for $60. The bill does not conflict with Oregon’s “Death with Dignity Act,” which allows physician-assisted suicide in certain circumstances.

The measure now moves to the state House.
