LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Police say a Texas man set his mother on fire, then went to a nearby school and held a teacher at knifepoint in an office before the superintendent broke down the door and disarmed him.

Lubbock police say 32-year-old George James Bradley was arrested on attempted murder and aggravated assault charges after the Monday morning incident at the Rise Academy school.

Bradley’s mother was listed in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital. School officials say superintendent Richard Baumgartner suffered a minor knife wound and that the teacher was unharmed.

School officials say Bradley walked into the school office and said he’d killed his mother. They say he became agitated and locked the door, then pulled out a knife.

The school says no children witnessed the incident.
