ROLLA, Mo. (AP) — Police say they’ve captured a man who tried breaking into a Missouri Army base and later fired on police during a high-speed chase.

Rolla Police say the suspect, was taken into custody Thursday afternoon.

Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cody N. Willcoxson.

Willcoxson lives in Missouri’s South West City, near the Oklahoma border. He was released from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections in 2008 after serving about 312 years for burglary, escaping from jail, and other felonies.

Authorities say the suspect drove through a security gate at Fort Leonard Wood Thursday morning and fired on police during a chase. They believe he later entered and left a building at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
