Clinic to tell about Sandy spring chinook

PORTLAND — A free seminar on spring chinook fishing in Oregon’s Sandy River will begin at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fishermen’s Marine and Outdoor, 1120 N. Hayden Meadows Drive.

Paul Coppinger of Junior’s Guide Service will be the featured speaker.

Boating safety class slated May 28

A boating safety class will begin at 8:30 a.m. May 28 at the Clark County Public Works Maintenance and Operations conference center, 4700 N.E. 78th St.

The class continues until 5 p.m. and costs $10 per boater. Students will learn safety skills, equipment requirements, navigation rules and more.

Tarbell trail work party set

BATTLE GROUND — Volunteers are needed to help the Chinook Trail Association work June 4 on the Tarbell trail in eastern Clark County.

A carpool will be organized beginning at 8 a.m. at the Clark Public Utilities Operations Center, 8600 N.E. 117th Ave.

June 4 is National Trails Day. No prior experience is needed to participate in the work party and tools are provided.

Gorge ride slated June 11

HOOD RIVER — Registration is open online at www.gorgeride.com for the fifth annual Gorge Ride scheduled June 11 from The Dalles to Hood River and back.

The 38.5-mile trip will go from the Columbia Gorge Discover Center on the Historic Columbia River Highway through the Mosier Twin Tunnels to the Hatfield west trailhead near Hood River and back.

The cost is $30 for riders age 12 and older and $15 for riders ages 6 to 11. A T-shirt costs an additional $15.

The course will be open from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
