NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are poised to end the week with gains ahead of data that will show how much more consumers are paying for everyday items.

Economists expect the monthly consumer price index to show that consumers paid 0.4 percent more in April. Most of the price increases are expected to be centered in the volatile food and energy categories because of high commodity prices.

Later in the day, the Michigan Consumer Sentiment index is expected to show that consumers are feeling slightly better about the economy.

Ahead of the opening bell, Dow Jones industrial average futures are up 19 points, or 0.2 percent, to 12,691. S&P 500 futures are up 3, or 0.2 percent, to 1,350. Nasdaq 100 futures are up 3, or 0.1 percent, to 2,409.
