SULTAN, Wash. (AP) — A woman holding a dog’ severed head was spotted standing along Highway 2 in Sultan.

The Snohomish County sheriff’s office says several people called 911 Thursday to report the woman.

Spokeswoman Rebecca Hover says she was distraught and not making sense.

The Daily Herald of Everett reports she was taken to a hospital in Monroe for a mental evaluation.

Deputies believe she killed her dog at her nearby home.
