The Mountain View baseball team broke through with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat Hudson’s Bay 8-2 Friday in an elimination game in the Class 3A bi-district tournament game at Clark College.

Mountain View advances to the bi-district fifth-place semifinal against Kelso at 4 p.m. today at Heidelberg Park in Tacoma. The Thunder would need to win two games today to reach the 3A state tournament.

After both teams scored a run in the first inning, Hudson’s Bay took a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the sixth.

But Ryan Johnson’s double scored PJ Jones with the tying run in the bottom of the sixth.

“After that, we just kept getting base hit after base hit,” Mountain View coach Aaron Coiteux said. “There wasn’t anything huge, just a lot of small contributions.”

Zach Torson, Justin Rinta, Ross Campbell, Cameron Westphal and Jones all added run-scoring hits after Johnson’s double.

J.T. Kaul gave up two earned runs over seven innings to pick up the win for Mountain View.

Emilio Alcantar was 1-1 with two stolen bases and Trevor Goforth had an RBI double for Hudson’s Bay.

Tennis

Wallace out of 4A bi-district — Union’s Alex Wallace, last year’s state singles runner-up in Class 3A, has withdrawn from next week’s 4A bi-district tournament in Tacoma for personal reasons, his coach Dave Heitsch said.

Last October, Wallace won the 4A district singles title over Skyview’s Kent Andreasen, the 4A singles runner-up last season.

Wallace’s withdrawal ends hopes of an all-Clark County singles final at the 4A state tournament, which will be held at the Vancouver Tennis Center.

Andreasen becomes the 4A Greater St. Helens League No. 1 singles seed to the bi-district, which will be held Thursday and Friday at the Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma. Union’s Marcus Kwon moves up to take the other seed to the bi-district.

4A district tennis finals today — The semifinals have been set for today’s final day of the Class 4A girls tennis district tournament at the Vancouver Tennis Center.

Advancing in singles were Kylee Tyler-Breimon and Megan Giesbers Battle Ground, Sonya Hampton of Skyview and Jelena Vidovic of Union.

In doubles, Skyview’s teams of Brittany Ellingsen-Anna Romanovsky and Kristina Meta-Tara Currie moved on. Sasha Jungling and Rhiannon Morfin of Union and Kaitlyn Tuholski and Bethany Winfield of Heritage also reached the semifinals.

Semifinal matches will begin at 8 a.m. today with the finals set for noon.
