BRIDGEPORT, Wash. (AP) — The cabinet secretary who will speak at the Bridgeport High School commencement ceremony is Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis.
Principal Tamra Jackson said Friday the school was notified students would hear from Solis, who is the daughter of immigrant parents from Mexico and Nicaragua and the first in her family to go to college. Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire also will speak at the June 1 ceremony.
Bridgeport was one of three schools in the running to have President Barack Obama speak, but the White House selected a school in Memphis on Tuesday and said a cabinet secretary to be named later would go to Bridgeport.
