Letter: Both states have tax advantage

In response to Lloyd Jolley’s May 10 letter, “Tax everyone who shops here,” I think it is ridiculous to tax Oregon residents who come to Washington to shop when we get a tax break when we shop in Oregon. Should we be carded and reported to be taxed when we go over there? In the end, it works itself out.

As Jolley pointed out, there are people living here with Oregon ID who are taking advantage, but what about all of the people from Washington purchasing cigarettes, groceries, and much more in Oregon tax free? Which would you consider worse?

Besides, tax or no tax, we need people from Oregon to continue to purchase goods in Washington simply for revenue. If we push tax on them, they will simply wait until they cross the bridge to shop. If we start messing with them, they might start messing with us, and I like my tax breaks.
