Volcanoes top Chinook for fifth straight win

Brian Morris and Andre Murray combined for 65 points as the Vancouver Volcanoes won their fifth straight International Basketball League game, defeating the Portland Chinook 143-135 Sunday at the O’Connell Center at Clark College.

Morris, a recent addition to the Volcanoes led the team with 33 points and 12 rebounds. Murray had 32 points and 10 assists.

Prairie High grad Devin Uskoski had 23 points and 13 rebounds, and Alex Hartman had 23 points. Antwan Williams also had a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.

Vancouver (5-1) outrebounded Portland 56-35, and led by as many as 18 points.

“We’ve had more practices together so the guy are now getting use to each other,” Volcanoes coach Brian Hunter said. “We are executing better and developing chemistry.”

Former Oregon State standout David Lucus led the Chinook (3-6) with 31 points.

Vancouver visits the Olympia Reign on Tuesday at The Evergreen State College. The Volcanoes next home game is Friday at 7 p.m. against the West Coast Hotshots.
