BALTIMORE (AP) — Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro will not run in the Preakness.

Nehro has endured a busy schedule this spring, and owner Ahmed Zayat says he doesn’t want to risk running the horse in Saturday’s second leg of the Triple Crown.

Zayat made the decision Tuesday morning, even though Nehro has responded well after finishing second behind Animal Kingdom at Churchill Downs on May 7.

Zayat says Nehro “couldn’t look any better,” but added, “I’m just concerned about him having four hard races in eight weeks.”

Before running in the Derby, Nehro was second in the Louisiana Derby on March 26 and second in the Arkansas Derby on April 16.

Zayat says his current plan is to enter Nehro in the Belmont Stakes on June 11.
