DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say a NATO helicopter has attacked a Pakistani army post on the border with Afghanistan, injuring two Pakistani soldiers.

The attack, if confirmed, could further strain relations between the U.S. and Pakistan that were already frayed by the American raid that killed Osama bin Laden on May 2.

The officials say the helicopter attack took place Tuesday morning in the Datta Khel area of the North Waziristan tribal region. Pakistani troops responded with machine gun fire and deployed two helicopters over the post, but the NATO helicopter had already left.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

NATO did not immediately comment on the reported incident.
