The Battle Ground girls rugby team won an Oregon Youth Rugby championship on Saturday, and two boys teams from Clark County reached the championship match in their division.

The Battle Ground girls defeated Grant of Portland 40-10 in the Oregon Youth Rugby Girls Division II finals. In just its second season, the Battle Ground team includes 21 girls from Battle Ground and Prairie high schools. It was unbeaten this season.

Boys teams representing Battle Ground and Camas advanced to play in championship matches on May 21.

Chantal Paradis, Marielle Ibareta, Elaina Galaviz and Hannah Fallon led the scoring for Battle Ground in the girls Division II final. Nicole Wall provided great leadership, according to Battle Ground coach Andre de Klerk.

“A great win,” said de Klerk, adding that Battle Ground took control of the match after a competitive first 20 minutes.

He said he doesn’t know yet if the Battle Ground team will be promoted to Division I next season.

Battle Ground boys 15, North Clackamas 0 — The Bulls advanced to the Division 2 boys final with a hard-fought win over North Clackamas. Tries were scored by Mat Beraldo and by Josh Marshall, who capped the win with a late try. Riley Kerle kicked a penalty and a conversion.
