SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say a 69-year old man who collapsed near the steps of the Oregon State Capitol building in Salem died of an apparent heart attack.

Troopers at the building were alerted Tuesday morning when they heard a woman yell that someone had fallen on the sidewalk.

Troopers found an adult male unconscious and determined he wasn’t breathing and had no pulse. They immediately started CPR until Salem firefighters arrived about two minutes later and took over.

The man was transported to Salem Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Troopers said they would release his name by Wednesday, after his family was notified.
