Letter: Single-payer plan can control crisis

There are currently 51 million Americans without adequate health insurance. Americans face many difficult decisions, such as buying medications or dinner for their family. The cost of health care is out of control. Congress must implement a single-payer insurance system to provide substantial health care to all Americans. A single-payer system will benefit all because we would no longer be paying high-cost premiums.

According to Sara Robinson, a member of Campaign for America’s Future, “When you balance out the difference, we’re actually ahead.” The amount you would pay for the single-payer insurance is much lower than paying for insurance each month and the medical bills. One may argue that Canada’s health care system is socialized medicine; however, this is a false statement. “In Canada, doctors run their own private practices … the only difference is doctors deal with one insurer, (the government).”

A single-payer system also effectively lowers costs due to lesser time being spent on insurance issues. With the health care crisis we have today, Americans need a single-payer system so that they all can believe in the American health care industry once again.
