VERNON, Conn. (AP) — Former Connecticut basketball player Jamal Coombs-McDaniel has apologized for his marijuana-possession arrest and says he will apply for the state’s drug education program.
Coombs-McDaniel was in Rockville Superior Court Thursday and will return June 15.
The 6-foot-7 forward from Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood was arrested April 21 on campus and charged with two misdemeanors, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He said outside of court he is sorry for what happened.
UConn has announced that Coombs-McDaniel plans to transfer. He said he is considering Hofstra University, the University of California at Irvine, University of Miami and University of Missouri.
Coombs-McDaniel played in all 41 of UConn’s games during its national championship season. He averaged 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds.
