High river levels to increase I-5 bridge lifts

The Columbia River’s running high, which means drivers might be running hot.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said Wednesday that drivers should expect more Interstate 5 bridge lifts for marine traffic.

Drivers should plan for delays, though lifts will not occur during morning and evening commutes.

Lifts will not occur from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In general, federal law requires ODOT to lift the bridge for all marine traffic requesting a lift.

Motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists using drawbridges to cross the Willamette River in Portland will also encounter delays due to increased bridge lifts.
